Mumbai Lawyer Files Fir Against Aib

Advocate Abha Singh, following a Girgaon court’s order, has filed a FIR (First Information Report) against 14 people involved in the AIB Roast Show (held on January 20 in Mumbais NSCI Auditorium).

The complaint filed at Tardeo police station names Karan Johar, Arjun Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt,  President of the NSCI Jayantilal Shah, General Secretary of NSCI Ravinder Agarwal and stand-up comedians Rohan Joshi, Tanmay Bhatt, Gursimran Khamba, Ashish Shakya and Aditi Mittal among others.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, C.S.Baviskar, issued the orders based on a complaint filed by social activist Santosh Daundkar through his lawyer Abha Singh.

The new complaint has been registered under section section 120-B (criminal conspiracy), sections 294, 509 (speaking vulgar, obscene and pornographic words publicly before a female audience) of the Indian Penal Code, Section 67 and 66 A of the Information Technology Act, 2000 (circulation of obscene, pornographic content on the internet) among others.

The provisions of Bombay Police Act 1951, the Environment Protect Act, 1986, and Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966 have also been included in the FIR.

When contacted, Abha Singh confirmed the story, saying, “Im a responsible citizen. As a woman, a mother and a professional, I think it is my duty to raise an alarm against such activities. The AIB Knockout had offenders who have defied many sections of the law. I havent spared the NSCI officials because that arena is meant for sports activities, not such vulgar shows conducted in the name of entertainment and humour. Its videos like these that encourage crimes against women."

Added the lawyer, "I have included Deepika and Alia too because they are iconic women who shouldn't have been sitting there and laughing at crass statements, some of which were aimed at them too."
